Discussion Assignment
Assignment 1: Web Portfolio
Assignment Overview
A portfolio can take many forms and be reproduced in a variety of media. While the portfolio will have many similar characteristics across different media formats, it is always important to re-evaluate how a portfolio works after being translated into a particular medium.
Assignment Description
For this assignment, you will convert your existing portfolio into a draft web-based portfolio. (You will only be uploading the images that fit into the one sub-genre that you're working on for this class.  At a later date, please feel free to add additional sub-genres to this page.)

You will consider the layout and display options available to you and will decide on the best way to represent your work and your brand

Using http://www.behance.net/, you will create a web portfolio for your images. Be sure to select appropriate design elements, background color, font choices, and layout when creating your web portfolio. Remember that a subtle and a conservative approach works well for most portfolios.  (Choose a simplistic layout that allows your images to stand out on their own; I would encourage you to choose a template that has a white background.)

Assignment Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Sign up for a https://www.behance.net/ account (if you do not already have one).
(A Behance portfolio is included in your Creative Cloud subscription)
    1. Supply the required information to create an account. If you already have a Creative Cloud subscription, you will enter your Adobe login information.
    2. Choose a URL that reflects either your actual name or the name of your photography business. (For example: "johnsmith" or "johnsmithphotography"; avoid nicknames or words that only have personal value to you.)
  2. Complete your personal information in the Profile section by clicking the Edit icon for each area, including the following points:
    • Name (Name of your Freelance Business)
    • Profile Image (A Professional Head-shot or Logo for your Business)
    • About Me (This is your statement that you submitted in W1: Assignment 1; be sure to make corrections where necessary particularly in regards to spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure.)
    • Work Experience (This should use some of the most important points from your résumé: jobs & skills) Fill out all appropriate components; be sure to make corrections that were given to you in the feedback from W1A1 in regards to your résumé.
    • E-mail (Ensure that the e-mail address listed clearly "matches" your freelance business name; avoid e-mail addresses that do not connect to the business.)
    • Location (city, state, or region)
    • Phone (Include a business phone number - perhaps Google Voice number; note, this is not required)
  3. Under Add Work, select New Project and create a new project titled Final Associates Degree Portfolio for your ongoing final project in this course; after graduation, you can change the name of this project.  For now, this will help to keep things "in order" for portfolio reviews.
    • Make sure that you export appropriate sized images so that each image is viewable on your site without having to scroll. In Lightroom's Publishing Manager export your images with the following settings:
    • File Settings: JPEG, Quality 60, Color Space sRGB
    • Image Sizing: Check Resize to Fit: Long Edge, Check Don't Enlarge, 1000 pixels, Resolution 72 pixels per inch.
    • Please see this video on how to export images from Lightroom to you Behance site, as well as customizing details.
  4. Select your newly created Portfolio project and customize the appearance. Then, add the following appropriate information for your portfolio:
    1. Add a project description, link, and category (if appropriate).
    2. Customize the layout under the Customize Design area.
      1. Background color or overall color scheme (Keep it simple; students are encouraged to use a white or black background depending on personal brand)
      2. Font choice (Your fonts should be easy for a viewer to read; keep in mind that most visitors to your page will look at it for a brief second.)
  5. Upload your portfolio images. The images and order should reflect the feedback you received in W3: Assignment 1
    1. Review the feedback you received from W2A1 and W3A1; update your portfolio with the best images.
    2. If you've been asked to make corrections to any images with prior feedback, please do so before uploading them to Behance.  If you've been asked to remove and/or replace images, this also needs to be completed prior to submitting your assignment.)
    3. Add appropriate titles or captions for each of the images. Please include an ordered number before each caption so that your images can be easily referred to for critique.
  6. Consider and adjust the sequencing of the portfolio images.
  7. When you are happy with the appearance of your portfolio, complete the following screenshots:
    1. Project page (landing page)
    2. Profile page
    3. Each of the portfolio pages (15–20 images)
    4. NOTE:  If you're unsure how to take a screenshot, please refer to the post in our Questions for the Professor section.
  8. Combine all of your screenshots into a single PDF file titled PHOA209_W4_A1_lastname_firstinitial.pdf.
  9. Write a brief description that addresses the process and decisions you made in approximately 150 words and paste this directly into the Discussion Area. (Be sure to double check your writing skills; students are encouraged to use Grammarly.com for this portion of the assignment.)
  1. Post your written description (directly into the Discussion Thread; not as a Word document), a clickable link to your web portfolio (double check that your link functions properly prior to submitting), and attach your screenshot PDF (created in Step 8) to the Discussion Area by Week 4, Day 7.

Note: This assignment is due on the last day of the weekThe due date has been set to help ensure that all students have ample time to complete the work successfully.  Please avoid submitting your assignment after this due date, which would then be "outside the week it was given", as it may not be accepted.
