PH323: Problems & Solutions - Week 4 - W4A1 & W4A3: Sun as a Backlight
Hi Class,
For your W4A1 and W4A3, you'll be using the setting (or rising) sun a a backlight for your images. You'll also be using either your strobe (with a lighting accessory) or a handheld flash (with a diffuser) as the key light - to illuminate your subjects. Below is an image showing an example of this taken by Matt Andrews:

Check out Matt's blog post below on this particular photo shoot! He refers to the "Golden Hour" as the "Magic Hour" - and for a great reason, the light seems like magic!
Be sure to note the highlights that are on the front of this couple - on their faces. What does this tell you? Matt did use the sun as a backlight, however he also used an off camera flash or strobe as a key light - this is why the couple has great lighting on their faces.
